portfolio
This portfolio covers both the visual and development aspects of some of our work so far. Leafish has completed several professional sites and projects for businesses and organisations, other sites have been developed in our own time for friends and associates.
We also host websites and can provide web-based applications.
p4c.com
p4c.com is a resource and collaboration service for P4C - Philosophy for Children. Its aim is to provide resources, collaboration opportunities and discussion forums for teachers and other educators interested in this educational initiative.
The majority of content on p4c.com is available through paid subscription only: the site has a subscriptions system based on Ubercart commerce including manual and PayPal payments, discounts for multiple subscriptions and custom subscription groups where a single user can be responsible for payment.
The site also features customised content listings with advanced filtering, a workflow for taking articles from draft through to published and a specialised points system to allow contributors to be paid in ratio to the amount of their work that is accepted.
Site development, Drupal implementation, custom modules, consultation, maintenance & upgrades, hosting & support.
"We have been very pleased with the work Paul and Dylan have done in bringing our ideas to fruition. The Drupal Open Source route has proved great value for money and reliable. Paul and Dylan listened to our needs and customised the website to achieve a 'best fit' solution we are happy with. They have also been able to solve problems quickly and with the minimum of fuss - and they are nice guys to deal with."
Steve Williams, p4c.com
Candy Says
Candy Says is a popular clothing and accessories boutique and on-line store, based in the UK. The site has been running for a few years now and is graced with an average of 1200 unique visitors per day.
The original site was a static HTML site designed by Alex Penny at IT Basecamp in Australia and was quickly converted to run on Drupal.
We audited and updated the site - bringing Drupal and contributed modules up to date - and completed a list of tweaks, clean-ups and minor amendments that had been building up during the first years of the site being on-line.
We also implemented some new features for Candy Says: an automatic archive for sold products, Drupal-based newsletters to replace an old mailing list and an "offer switcher" which controls the banners displayed on the front page and acts as a toggle for various e-commerce powered discounts and coupon schemes.
We also host and provide support for this busy clothing outlet. Plans are also afoot for an update in the new year including new features and a brand new look.
Drupal audit and update, general site and theme clean-up, several minor changes, Drupal consultation, hosting and support.
"We are delighted with the work carried out by Leafish on the Candy Says site and would highly recommend them. Their understanding of our requirements, response time to queries, clear and concise communication, attention to detail and ability to tailor the website to our specification has been very impressive and hassle-free!
"We'll definitely be using them again in the future and are very glad we found them."
Dawn Crawford, Candy Says
ALcontrol Laboratories
ALcontrol Laboratories provide environmental and food testing and are a international company. Leafish designed, developed and support a new multi-lingual Drupal 6 site intended to replace several separate, region-specific sites. The site's conversion to a Drupal base is the first step in ALcontrol's new "live on the web" philosophy.
During development emphasis was placed on getting a working framework up and running in order for ALcontrol staff to begin the not insubstantial task of planning, writing, importing and translating content. The site structure was planned and defined quickly and is a representation of the company's business structure. Various users are responsible for each business unit and its content (pages, news, events and job vacancies).
Content was wiki'fied - a framework implemented by ourselves and the site admin staff at ALcontrol, then various members of staff were encouraged to provide their own pages and content for review, publication and translation by multi-lingual staff from the various business units or departments.
Points of interest
- Custom site structure similar to groups
- Multiple languages, translations and "Translator" administrative users
- Multiple company site administrators
- Categorised news, events and jobs
- Custom display of items using Views and Quicktabs
- Private blogs posted by senior staff viewable by authenticated ALcontrol members
Specification, design and development; a complete site and theme built on Drupal 6; Drupal support & consultation and server monitoring & updates.
The Birth Place
While we have hosted The Birth Place for a few years now, the original site was a quick and dirty conversion from a static site, already complete and designed by another party, to Drupal 4.6.
As part of an agreement to support and continue hosting both The Birth Place and its sister site, Nubian Health Network, we have recently revamped the entire site - working in several new features based on Views, Nodequeue, as well as providing both public and private Patient and Staff only forums - and updated the site to Drupal 5.
The front page layout is slightly unusual in that it provides some immediate information to new visitors and potential clients for the clinic - welcome message, some information about the clinic and promotional box-outs for open visits. The latest news is presented as a list of short teasers underneath the main content area as a 'Bulletin Board'.
New theme revamp in keeping with the organisation's identity, Drupal setup and support, hosting and e-mail, custom user profiles for members of staff, views with custom theming and access control using Taxonomy Access.
"...as the Americans say: 'you rock!' Thanks for your speedy work."
Jennie Joseph, The Birth Place
Jennie Joseph
A more personal site for one of our clients Jennie Joseph, who runs a multitude of maternal and midwifery-related groups, organisations and charities over in Orlando, Florida.
Jennie is responsible for a unique birthing centre The Birth Place, an on-line resource and forum Nubian Health Network, a non-profit organisation Commonsense Childbirth, development of The JJ Way™ MCH healthcare delivery model and so much more.
Jennie's personal site needed an overhaul to coincide with the release of her new book, Beautiful! Images of Health, Joy and Vitality in Pregnancy and Birth. Jennie plans to add writing and thoughts on her life in midwifery, birthing and child-care.
Content conversion from static site, Drupal set-up and theme. We also provide on-going hosting and support for Jennie's sites.
SmartSheet.com
Smartsheet.com is the corporate site and portal to Smartsheet: an "online task management hub that enables you to move projects along without the hassle of complex rules. Because it's effortless to adopt, you succeed in providing clarity for all team members, every step of the way."
This project was a collaboration between the guys at Smartsheet, Northlake Design and Advanced Web Design.

Rivertown URC
Rivertown United Reformed Church is a modern, spiritual Christian church in Shotton, North Wales. As more and more members begin to communicate via e-mail and other electronic means, the idea of creating a website to facilitate communication (of church news and events to and between members) and promotion of the church becomes all the more appealing to the senior members and the Rivertown community alike.
The Rivertown site is based on a fairly full featured Drupal setup: categorised articles and news items, events and event calendar, sermons with audio versions, photo galleries and aggregated content for daily bible readings and reading plans.
The Rivertown site makes extensive use of events and the events calendar, including repeating events. The church is used extensively by the community for activities other than those immediately involving the church, such as support groups, youth clubs and music groups/band practices.
Weekly Notices have been published every Sunday at the church for many years, given out to all members to communicate both regular weekly events and advanced notices: events taking place not in the current week, but are of sufficient importance to be noted in advance.
We created a custom module to provide equivalent functionality, building on the events and repeating events modules. The main Weekly Notices page is generated automatically by listing the events occurring within the current week. Additionally, events can be marked to be included in the 'Advanced Notices' appended to the Weekly Notices, even if they do not occur in the current week.

Nubian Health Network
Nubian Health Network is the source for all your women's health information needs. Our mission is to provide you with accurate, pertinent and current health education, referrals and resources; help to reduce racial disparities in health care and to re-build positive community connections through sharing.
Primarily a resource site, Nubian Health Network has been set up to allow site moderators to create categorised links to useful sites and resources with a short brief or comment from the site authors for each.
The site is currently taking its first baby steps, with further work Jennie Joseph and ourselves hope to provide up-to-date health news, syndicated content and a community forum for people to post problems and be helped out with relevant links and resources.

Llay Miners Welfare
A site to advertise the facilities of Llay Miners Welfare, and to provide listings of local events and sports galas. Events listings and club information is available, as well as contact and booking forms.
The site has recently been revamped and updated to Drupal 5.
Drupal, custom design in CSS, additional PHP & MySQL work, design and logo in Adobe Photoshop.
paul.leafish.co.uk
Essentially a blog, set up during the revamp of our current Leafish site. We moved away from personal news, content and unsupported development and code snippets on the site, so some of my stuff has ended up here. Also posted is some information about my other projects and hobbies: Babylon Leaf, The Infinite Bacon Project and games.
Drupal, theme derived from Internet Jobs using PHPTemplate and CSS, additional modules with PHP/MySQL, design with Adobe Illustrator.
Babylon Leaf
The first of several sites for local live bands in the North West. Babylon Leaf is a six-piece who have been playing together in various forms for nearly ten years.
The site was designed to provide regular news and events listings, as well as downloads: song samples, images and artwork. The site is powered by the Drupal content management system (CMS), and so the band can easily access and update news and events themselves.
The site has extensive galleries, a message board and a downloads page with full-length tunage and Flash preview players.
Drupal CMS, extensive custom theme in PHP, design in Illustrator/Photoshop, some Flash elements
Grasshopper Gardens
Grasshopper Gardens is a one-man, do-it-all gardening service run by Dave Byrne. A recent start-up, the website was put together in order to quickly and cheaply promote the business.
Grasshopper provide almost any gardening service you might require; from simple maintenance right up to hedgerow & tree lopping and ornamental landscaping.
Whilst the current site is simple, a means of advertising and communicating, we plan on implementing a secure, customer-only area where clients can log in and request work or a quote, view new or archived invoices and keep in constant touch.
If the communication medium of e-mail and website prove popular with Grasshopper and its clients (as is already the case: Dave uses e-mail to discuss and confirm work with over 70% of his customers), this customer tool would be a great selling point for its services and, for that matter, any other start-ups.
